The Bradbury Park Playscape was designed to provide a vibrant, safe, and stimulating outdoor play area for families and children. The playscape’s theme, “Byways and Hollows,” draws inspiration from the unpredictability and natural beauty of the Australian landscape. Our role was to fabricate and erect the structural steel components that would bring this vision to life, blending art, architecture, and engineering.
Design Choices: Blending Nature and Steel
The playscape’s design called for complex steel structures that mimic natural forms such as tree branches, hollows, and winding pathways. At BridgeFab, we understood that the steelwork needed not only to be strong and safe but also aesthetically engaging and contextually relevant to the surrounding ironbark trees and local wildlife habitats.
To achieve this, our engineering and design team employed Tekla 3D modelling software to create detailed, accurate digital models of every steel element. This allowed us to:
- Visualise how each component would fit within the overall playscape
- Test structural integrity and safety before fabrication
- Identify and resolve potential design conflicts early on
- Coordinate with architects, landscapers, and contractors for seamless integration

Precision Fabrication and Installation
Using the Tekla models as our blueprint, BridgeFab’s fabrication team cut, welded, and assembled the steel components with exacting precision. The digital models linked directly to our fabrication software, minimising manual errors and ensuring every bend, cut, and weld matched the design specifications perfectly.
Once fabricated, our erection team carefully installed the steel structures on site, positioning them among the natural landscape without disturbing the environment. The interplay of steel and nature creates a dynamic environment where the industrial and organic co-exist harmoniously.
