What is metalwork? 

Metalwork refers to the smaller area of steelwork. The process of metalworking involves the act of forming and shaping metals to create useful objects, as well as structures, tools and equipment parts. Many metalworking projects involve forming, cutting and joining metal, and metalworkers may employ a range of techniques, depending on the project at hand. These techniques may include cutting and welding, as well as casting and moulding of various metal types. The material that is used in metalworking will depend on the type of project that is being worked on and may include steel, stainless steel and aluminium. 

What metals do we use?

When working on metalwork details, such as handrails, park benches, metal grates and bag racks, our team of sheet-metal workers use a range of materials. These include steel, stainless steel and aluminium. Each of the materials has its own set of benefits and possible applications:

Steel
Steel is used widely in the construction industry and is a popular choice for applications that require strength. There are various types of steel available, ranging from mild to medium and high carbon content. The type that you choose for your metalwork will depend on how resistant you need the material to be, as well as the specific project details that you have in mind.  

Stainless steel
Stainless steel is used widely in metalworking. It is a popular material because of the fact that is resistant to both corrosion and stains. It is also extremely strong and reliable. Made up of a number of different metals, stainless steel is an alloy that can be made according to different grades, depending on the properties that are required for a specific project. It is often used for details like handrails and balustrades, as well as various structural applications, roofing and architectural cladding.

Aluminium
Aluminium is an extremely versatile material and can be used on a range of projects. Thanks to its excellent malleability, the material can be moulded into many shapes. Aluminium is one of the most used metals after steel when it comes to buildings, and is often used for details like window frames, roofing, and doors. Some of the features which make aluminium so popular include its resistance to corrosion and harsh weather conditions, as well as its high conductivity.
